Portrait - Day 7 and 8 Complete Your Portrait - Post Final to Blog

Put on the finishing touches of value to the face, neck, eyes, nose, and mouth.

Hair 

Add a base layer to the hairAlways work in the direction that the hair grows. Use a 3B pencil.
Add areas of darker value to the hair and use a sharpeneed eraser to erase highlights.

Add some value to clothing

Erase all grid marks

Take a picture and post to your blog. Title it Portrait- Final 4-16

I will grade your portriat as it is at the end of this class. If you want to improve  it you can do so outside of class, during advisory, or before of after school.

Day 5 and 6 - Adding Value - POST PORTRAIT TO YOUR BLOG 4-8

Add a base layer of value on the face and neck with a HB pencil

Add value and detail to the lips

Add value to the nose. pay close attention to where the shadows and and highlights are on the bridge and tip of the nose.

Add Value to the eye sockets

Add value to the chekks, chin, and forehead

Add value to the neck.

NEXT CLASS - HAIR

Day 4 - Eyes

Add a 1 inch grid in the area of the eyes and a 1/2 inch grid on your picture. Grid even smaller for better results.

Draw the outline of the eyeball. To get the best placement, notice where the eyeball lines cross the grid lines.

Draw the iris and the pupils. Do not color or shade any of the eyes at this point.

Draw the tearduct, the eyelid line, and the rim below the eye where the eyelashes attach. DO NOT DRAW THE EYELASHES YET.

Lightly draw the the shape of the eyebrows to make sure you have proper placement, then draw in the invididual hairs.

Erase the grid on the drawing.

Portrait - Day 2 and 3

Last class we created a 2 inch on our papers and took pictures.

Today we will:

• Create a 1 inch grid on our papers 
• Draw the outline around the edge of your face and head, including your hair, clothes, and ears.

MOUTH

• Add a 1 inch grid in the area of the mouth on the drawing paper and a 1/2 inch grid on your picture. Grid even smaller for best results.
• Add mouth lines including upper and lower lip lines. Draw the teeth very lightly if you can see them. Pay attention to where the lip lines cross the grid lines

NOSE

• Add a 1 inch grid in the area of the mouth on the drawing paper and a 1/2 inch grid on your picture. Grid even smaller for best results.
• Draw the nose lobes and nostrils. DO NOT outline the upper part of the nose. You will shade this later.

Realistic Drawing from Observation

Reminder - Your Final Notan is now due and should be posted to your blog.

Today we will draw a pumpkin by observation.

Before you draw remember the strategies we used for drawing realistically.

Before starting your drawing, use your thumb and pencil to find a unit of measure.

Think about the following:

What would be something in the arrangement to use as a unit of measure?

Draw everything in proportion to each other. Make sure the pumpkin is not too large or small compared to the box. 

Before drawing the box, use your pencil to find angles and compare the angle to the hands on a clock.

Use your grayscale to find shadows, midtones, and highlights.

Next, observe the details of what you are drawing. How many sections does the pumpkin have? Are they all the same size or shape?

Is the stem short or long? 

Compare the values of the paper, the box, and the midtones and highlights of the pumpkin? Where do you think they would be on the value scale?

Remember that you are learning how to see these details at the same time you are making connections between your eyes, brain, and hands. 

Take your time, observe carefully and you may be surprised at how real your drawing turns out!

Today you will complete your Notan. If you finish before class work on the Mystery Grid.

Take a picture of each project when you finish. we will post to the blog next class.
